LAURENTIANS SOCCER

The first organized game was played in Lt. St. Lawrence on Patty's farm against the men that were working at the whale factory from St. John's in 1906. In 1922 a game was played between Lawn and St. Lawrence organized by Father Thorne. From 1922 to 1950, games were played against teams from Lawn, Grand Bank, Burin, and St. Pierre. The teams of the 50's and 60's went on to win many Burin Peninsula and Provincial championships. The Laurentians continued on their soccer success into the 70's and won 2 silver medals at Nationals, 1975, 1977 and were declared Team of the Decade. The 80's and 90's saw many CC Championships and a bronze medal in 1999. 2000 has seen numerous awards with two silver medals in 2002 and 2005. St. Lawrence has no doubt earned its name when it was declared "The Soccer Capital of Canada". Our tiny Town thrives on its soccer past and present. Home of The Blues... Laurentian proud!
